Twin Pushchairs

As its name suggests, the twin pushchair is designed to be used for two children, and is ideal for parents with youngsters close in age, or who are twins. The twin pushchair differs from the tandem buggy most just in terms of the relative orientation of the seats. In the twin, the seats are next to one another, whilst in the tandem, one is in front of the other. Of course, this presents obvious tradeoffs. While the twin offers both children the same visibility, it is much wider, and thus more difficult to move around, in particular in tight spaces, as found in restaurants, stores or even on crowded seats.

There are other varieties to consider as well, including those pushchairs that provide for multipurpose. Some pushchairs are designed to transition from a stroller to a pram with relative ease. The advantage of this is that it allows for more extended use of the device, as it will be suitable both for infants and for toddlers as well. One drawback is that the added functionality also tends to add extra weight to the device, making it a little less friendly to move around, store and transport.

You can also consider whether a vehicle suitable for “baby off-roading” will suit your needs. These devices come with larger knobby wheels, which will make going over rough terrain a little more easy, and the devices themselves are reinforced for rougher action. While these modes of transportation can be used for the very young (less than three months) in some cases, they are not recommended, but if you like to go hiking with the young one or live in a country setting, this alternative might be suitable.  Also, bear in mind that this option can be a little heavier and bulkier and so more difficult fit into cars and other tight spaces.

There is also the more traditional pram, or baby carriage. These carriages resemble bassinets, and are often designed with antique looking features, evocative of their long history. While these devices are great for newborns, they have some significant disadvantages later on; namely, they do not typically fold up for storage, and they are not safe for children who are old enough to climb up on their sides.

And there are also complete transportation systems, which include the buggie and a car seat; they make for easy transport between the car and the stroller. They come in many varieties, including three or four wheels, and have many of the same features and amenities as the other strollers.

Of course, the options for baby strollers are nearly limitless today. While all of this choice represents an advantage in that parents can typically find exactly what will best match their particular needs, all that choice can also create a situation where the options are hard to sort through. Whenever shopping for a stroller it is a good idea to first think through the lifestyle you have, and then try to find the stroller that best matches those requirements. Those who drive, or those who live up three flights of stairs, or those who live in the country, will all find good options, but they will all likely be different from one another.
