A Buyer’s Guide to Double Buggies

Traditionally parents have had two choices in double buggies; those in which the child seats were one in front of the other
and those in which the seats were positioned side to side. There is yet another design now which is stroller for a single baby
convertible into a double buggy.

Tandem Buggies versus Twin Buggies

There are pros and cons with each. Strollers with seats in the front and back are more narrow, and so easier to use when strolling
down streets with lots of people, shops, dogs, etc. On the downside, these can be a little tough to steer, and the child in the
back does not get much in the way of scenery. Strollers with seats next to one another can tend to be a little more easy to steer,
however, going through doors with them, up and down narrow stairways, through a restaurant, etc, can all prove a little difficult.

Convertible Buggies

There is also a design which is fundamentally a single stroller that converts to a double. The advantage is that you are only
ever pushing as much stroller as you need. Also the front pulls down into a bassinet, which can help the little ones to sleep
while you are strolling. These are lighter and more maneuverable than the other alternatives. On the down side, the second seat
is sold separately, and there is no getting around the limited view of the backseat.

Features to look out for

Across all these design types, there are a few other things to look for. One would be wheel type and size. Generally speaking,
the larger the wheel, the more comfortable the ride, though there can be tradeoffs with respect to taking turns. Also, wheels
will come into play if you plan to jog with the stroller.

Folding and Storage

You will also want to evaluate how the strollers fold down, and consider whether or not you want a slip cover of some kind. Not
all strollers fold down easily, and this can become a major consideration if you plan to bring the stroller in and out of the car,
on airplanes, up and down stairs and so on. Related to this is the weight of the stroller. Some strollers are made with sturdy lightweight
materials, while others trade off the extra weight for durability. There is no right or wrong, it is more a matter of making sure the
facets of the stroller fit with your intended uses of it.

Buggy Accessories

Finally, think about accessories that often come with double strollers,
including cup holders, bag holders, umbrellas and so on. Most of these
are sold separately, and in some cases, buying all the available gadgets that attach can double the cost of the stroller. Many of these
accessories are nice to have, but the cost can get out of hand quickly.

Be advised!

With the coffee cup holder in particular, evaluate how these features might impact the passenger. Some buggies place the coffee
cup holder in a place where the hot coffee can easily spill out on the baby’s head below.
